EarthLink Internet Review 2026: Plans, Speeds & Value

Full EarthLink internet review covering fiber and wireless plans, pricing, customer service, and how EarthLink compares to major providers.

By Jason Meyers, Senior Broadband Analyst February 18, 2026 Updated March 2026

EarthLink is a unique player in the broadband market. Unlike ISPs that own their own cable or fiber infrastructure, EarthLink operates as a reseller — partnering with local providers to deliver fiber, cable, and fixed wireless internet under the EarthLink brand. The result is wider coverage than most fiber-focused ISPs, plus a strong privacy and customer service focus.

Fiber Plans

EarthLink’s fiber plans use the fiber networks of providers like AT&T, Frontier, and CenturyLink:

  • 300 Mbps — $49.99/mo
  • 500 Mbps — $59.99/mo
  • 1 Gbps — $69.99/mo
  • 2 Gbps — $99.99/mo
  • 5 Gbps — $149.99/mo

All fiber plans include symmetrical upload speeds and no data cap.

Wireless Home Internet

For areas without fiber:

  • 50 Mbps — $49.99/mo
  • 100 Mbps — $59.99/mo

Wireless plans use T-Mobile or other carrier networks.

Fair question. If EarthLink resells AT&T Fiber, why not just get AT&T directly? A few reasons:

  1. Customer service — EarthLink consistently ranks higher in customer satisfaction than many infrastructure providers. You deal with EarthLink’s support team, not the underlying carrier’s.

  2. Privacy focus — EarthLink has a strong privacy policy and doesn’t sell your browsing data. They even offer a built-in security suite.

  3. Single billing — If you move between areas served by different underlying providers, EarthLink offers continuous service and a single account.

  4. Competitive pricing — EarthLink’s rates are often equal to or lower than going direct, especially on fiber plans.

Real-World Performance

Because EarthLink uses partner networks, performance mirrors the underlying provider:

  • On AT&T Fiber network: Expect 95%+ of advertised speeds, symmetrical upload
  • On Frontier Fiber: Similar 95%+ performance, symmetrical
  • On wireless networks: Variable, typically 60-85% of advertised speeds

The infrastructure quality depends on which provider serves your address. EarthLink fiber = same fiber, different customer experience.

What We Like

  • Broad availability — Coverage through multiple partner networks reaches more addresses than any single fiber provider
  • Strong privacy stance — Doesn’t sell browsing data, includes security features
  • No contracts — Month-to-month service on all plans
  • Customer service — U.S.-based support with higher satisfaction ratings than many competitors
  • Straightforward pricing — No hidden fees or dramatic post-promo increases
  • No data caps on fiber — Unlimited usage on all fiber plans

What Could Be Better

  • You’re not the direct customer — If there’s a physical line issue, EarthLink has to coordinate with the underlying provider, which can slow resolution
  • Wireless plans have data considerations — The wireless home internet tier may have deprioritization during congestion
  • Limited brand awareness — Many people don’t realize EarthLink still exists (they’ve been around since 1994)
  • Equipment varies — What modem/router you get depends on the underlying network
  • No TV bundles — Internet-only, no cable TV option

EarthLink is good for:

  • People who value privacy and don’t want their ISP selling their data
  • Anyone frustrated with their current provider’s customer service
  • Households in areas where EarthLink fiber pricing beats the direct provider
  • People wanting a single provider relationship that works across multiple areas

Look elsewhere if:

  • You prefer dealing directly with the infrastructure owner for faster support
  • Frontier or AT&T Fiber is cheaper in your area
  • You need the absolute cheapest option available
